Relinquishing of Antarctic Claims

17 August 2025

-

On the 14th of August, Parliament voted yes unanimously to relinquish Aqurio-Catopalian claims on Antarctica, citing the Antarctic Treaty and other nations' claims on Antarctica.

The Antarctic Treaty states that no nation may make claims or expand claims to Antarctica (except those who already made claims). In deciding to abide by the Treaty, Aquria-Catopolis shows their willingness to comply with established international law.

Proclamation

It was declared by Proclamation that the claims were relinquished.

"A Proclamation

FOR the relinquishing of Aquria-Catopolis’ claim of the Pawsland territory and the Felinea territory in Antarctica.

WHEREAS the Pawsland and Felinea territories have no permanent population and cannot be legitimately claimed by Aquria-Catopolis as part of Aquria-Catopolis;

WHEREAS the Pawsland and Felinea territories are not beneficial to Aquria-Catopolis;

WHEREAS the claim of the Pawsland and Felinea territories may in the future result in disputes regarding the Antarctic Treaty and other nations' claims;

AND WHEREAS Parliament has thought it fit to, due to the above reasons, relinquish the claim of the Pawsland and Felinea territories.

We, therefore, have thought it fit to issue this our Official Proclamation, and we do ordain, declare, and command that on and after the thirteenth day of August, two thousand and twenty-five, the claim on the territory of Pawsland shall be relinquished, and the Constitution Act, 2025 shall be amended to reflect this."

Constitutional Amendment

Later, on the 17th, Parliament unanimously approved a Constitutional Amendment officially removing the former Antarctic provinces Felinea and Pawsland. As a result, Aquria-Catopolis is now made up of five provinces instead of seven.
