Founding
Aquria-Catopolis was originally created on the 26th of December 2024 as the United Republics of Aquria-Catopolis, those republics being the separate Aquria and Catopolis. Aquria was founded on 27 June 2024, and Catopolis on 14 July 2022.
Aquria
Aquria was originally founded on 27 June 2024 as the District of the Blue Banner, a union of the states of Locus Mieus, Iter and Eius Locus. On 8 July 2024, it was renamed to the Federative Republic of Equaria. This period is known as the Equarian Period. On 11 December 2024, a referendum was passed that would give greater regional representation, further political freedoms and civil rights, reformed the Constitution, as well as changing the flag. It also renamed Equaria to the Grand Duchy of Aquria.
Aquria was later renamed to the United Districts of Aquria.
Catopolis
Catopolis was founded on 14 July 2022 with five provinces. Meowton later joined as a province through the Meowton Act, 2025. Later, after the union, Aquria-Catopolis released its claims on the Antarctic provinces of Pawsland and Felinea (originally Catopalian claims).
Relations between Aquria and Catopolis
On 27 July 2024, the Federative Republic of Equaria created an informal alliance and diplomatic relations with Catopolis. Both countries were very young at this point and much less formal as they are now.
Personal union
After the Equarian referendum in 2024, the newly-renamed Aquria proposed the formation of the United Republics of Aquria-Catopolis—a personal union, and it was agreed-upon on 26 December 2024, but its Constitution was only ratified on 26 April 2025, due to a long drafting process.
The two countries would share laws, skills, etc., but both would remain essentially autonomous from one another. Notably, each country retained its own Parliament and Prime Minister, and the regions of the countries were called different things: districts for Aquria and provinces for Catopolis. Together they were legally called 'regional districts,' and the two countries were called 'national districts.' Foreign policy, law-making and other activities affecting both Aquria and Catopolis were to be approved by both Parliaments.

Full union
On 22 July 2025, Aquria contacted Catopolis, informing of a dire situation for Aquria. All citizens but one had been 'driven out' for reasons they could not control. As such, the duchy system of Aquria failed and so did the democracy in Aquria. Aquria recommended that they join Catopolis as a province to help solve the many issues facing them. Catopolis gladly accepted the proposal to help their long-known friend.
On 23 July, Catopolis prepared a new draft Constitution for Aqurian review.
On 24 July, Aquria finished reviewing and approved the draft.
On 26 July, the Constitution was ratified.
The Aquria-Catopolis Union Proclamation
According to Section 2 of the Constitution, this is what happened to the United Republics of Aquria-Catopolis:
1. The national district of Aquria became a province of the national district of Catopolis.
2. This country was renamed to Aquria-Catopolis.
3. The United Republics were abolished, leaving only Aquria-Catopolis.
